If you use Twitter long enough, you won’t only meet people that are like minded, you’ll meet a community of people willing to help you share information, and you’ll be inclined to see what they’re up to. You’ll develop relationships with people who when they meet you in person will say stuff like, “I don’t recognize you without the aviators.”

After our blog was featured by Karen Mracek in the Des Moines Register today in their first ever “Twitterview” we took a look back at all the people that helped Iowa and the AdMavericks win Ad Agency Blog of the Month honors. Here’s a look at some of the new people we met along the way, and some of the amazing things they’re doing right here in Iowa.

ROXI COPLAND

rotate.php@roxicopland – Ever hear music for the first time and find yourself angry that no one had told you about it before? Music tastes vary, but I can’t imagine not having this in my iTunes collection. Think Saturday morning, cup of coffee and some rain about to come in meets smokey jazz bar.

Max Plenke sums her up this way, “Roxi Copland of Des Moines has a deep, soulful voice to complement the slew of talented musicians she works with. Decidedly jazz/pop, Roxi’s music is the modern equivalent to the sensual, smoky bar soloist with a Coltrane air.”

Check out her site.

iTunes – here I come!

HOUSEWIFE HACKS

@housewifehacks - Amy Dixheader_1, the self described “harried housewife and stay-at-home-mon” has three little boys that are all preschoolers. Yet somehow, she’s able to blog and Tweet valuable deals for her readers looking to be a little more frugal. In this economic environment, what site could be better? She tweets about everything from free Kleenex at Walgreens to buying strategies such as Brand vs. Generic. Stop cutting coupons and head to Housewife Hacks - she has printable coupons waiting for you.

DES MOINES IS NOT BORING

pete__2_Smash T-shirts in the East Village has a shirt that reads, “Des Moines, the Greatest City in the World.” The reason I own that shirt is simple. I think the message is unexpected, and I think there is a lot of truth to the statement. I mean, why else would I be living here? There’s a common misperception among non-Iowans and some misguided Iowans that there’s nothing going on in our town. Meet, Pete Jones, and his blog: Des Moines is Not Boring. There is a ridiculous amount of content posted two to three times a week on this blog about things to do in Des Moines in all seasons. Spend ten minutes reading his blog and you’ll believe him. Anyone considering a move to Iowa should check out his site.

I’m sure there are tons of people I should recognize here but attention spans being what they are… If you have some thoughts on Iowans doing cool things, let us know.

Side note: I wrote this post before Pete Jones posted his post this morning. What can I say, people are fired up about Iowa and they should be!

  2. joshuafleming

no man, thanks for fighting the good fight on your blog. As for your picture, better to be too big and high res than look like a screen shot from youtube, no?

  3. If being a musician qualifies you for this list, than I modestly nominate myself (@tombrazelton).

I’m a web cartoonist who has been updating three times a week to his web site (http://www.theaterhopper.com) and am currently utilizing the fund raising platform tool Kickstarter to help raise money to self-publish his third book (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tombrazelton/theater-hopper-year-three)!

  4. Amy

Wow thanks guys! Glad you’re enjoying my blog and I’m a big fan of the Des Moines is not Boring… glad to see you’re spreading the word about Iowans. ; )
