We asked for nominations for worst of the week and T-Mobile showed up twice for two different things. Here’s number one.
Take a look at this video…
Now this is a clever campaign – can you relate to someone in this campaign? Most likely you can, but not if you’re a farmer. You
see, the piece of farm equipment our smart phone farmer is using? Yeah, well that Ford 8N is 60 years old. There were about 100 of this particular model made. Then look at that field! If he’s using that tractor, he’ll be there a few months. Guessing some NYC agency creative guy saw this tractor and thought “This is so cool, it will look great in the shot!” Do your homework NYC!
Hat tip to Willie Vogt from Farm Progress for the heads up on this one.
Second reason. Their campaign? “What do you want from a wireless company?” How many of you answered porn? Yep, turns out that an HR Director’s phone wasn’t working. Handed it off to someone in their office to fix it and then…bow chi chi bow bow…HR Director with porn. Not good. Then, some woman was looking at her husband’s phone and guess what? She found porn. “I swear dear, it wasn’t me.”
Turns out multiple people experienced this right after T-Mobile changed their rate plans. You can read more about it here, in eSarcasm’s cleverly titled piece “Sorry for the Outages, Here’s Some Free Porn”
Congrats, T-Mobile, your our Worst of the Week!

I’m sure Willie is a smart guy but you can ask my wife, I said the same thing about the tractor when I saw the commercial. I does surprise me how little the rest of the country knows about farming. A guy with a pitchfork and overalls was probably rejected before they decided to go with the 60 year old tractor!

Gotta love those contrived ideas of midwesterners and farming. The T-mobile porn snafu is pretty hilarious. I can think of quite a number of guys who will be switching to t-mobile immediately. Horrible snafu or brilliant strategy?

Thanks for the comments. Matt, you are also a smart guy. Amy, you just might be onto something with that “brilliant strategy.” Not that I would recommend such a thing! : )
